President Trump’s Proposal Eliminates Afterschool Funding

President Trump has just unveiled his budget priorities. Once again, his plan eliminates funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC). This program is the only federal funding source exclusively dedicated to supporting before‐school, afterschool, and summer learning programs.

While that news is heartbreaking, prior experience has shown that when advocates step up–Congress responds. Last year, dedicated afterschool champions made approximately 71,500 points of contact with federal legislators, including calls, emails, and letters in support of 21st CCLC. Our swift response resulted in the U.S. Senate and House Appropriations Committees rejecting President Trump’s proposed elimination.
